Three hot summer sunglasses trends

In summer, we all take out our best attire from the back of the closet: those tiny swimsuits, those stellar heels, the raffia clutches and, of course, the craziest sunglasses. We’re entitled to: it’s festival season, it’s vacation season and it’s, ultimately, the hottest season. There’s no better excuse to wear the coolest stuff, those things that make us feel free and happy. And speaking of sunglasses, here are three of the hottest trends to wear this summer:

1. Blue mirror lenses

Mirror lenses are a hit lately! We don’t just like them on sports sunglasses, for their high protection, but also on our everyday, urban shades. While yellow and green may still be around, it seems that blue mirror lenses are the most popular this season. Great news, if you’ve always wanted blue eyes! Plus, they don’t just look good with matchy-matchy looks like this one, but with almost every other summer trend, including neons and tropical style.

2. Neon pops

One of the perks of summer is being able to wear bold colors. Neons are, of course, our favorites. Neon sunglasses look amazing, but it’s even better when they’re not entirely colored: the interior or just the arms can make them pop, while keeping a formal front. Kind of like the old saying: “business in the front, party in the back”. Get the exact same look of Kelly Framel (pictured) with the Ray Ban Clubmasters in top brown on yellow.

3. Embellished frames

You’ve seen these around, you might have even DIY-ed a pair: embellished sunglasses. Anna Dello Russo made them wild in her H&M collection, putting animals at the corners of the frames, while other designers kept it light, with delicate flowers. Other possibilities include baroque embellishments, rock’n’roll studs and spikes, pretty pearls or glitter.

Neon brights – Nail polish to brighten up the last of summer

This über-bright nail polish caught my eye when I was browsing in Superdrug and as it was pocket-money price at only 2 quid, I snapped it up to perk up my nails for the last of the Summer – 2True Colour Quick nail polish in Shade 3 – a bright neon coral.

I was surprised with the coverage of this polish – the flat brush made it easy to apply and it dried quickly. And with two coats, this nail varnish lasted ageees – and that’s with me doing a full spring-clean and tons of washing up, so I’m impressed overall, and would definitely buy more from the same range in the future.

Famous Tutus – Katy Perry’s wacky wardrobe

As her music videos and red-carpet outfit choices often show, Katy Perry is a fan of all things weird and wonderful. She seems to live her life in a Willy Wonka world of sweeties and fluffy things and this sickly concoction of lilac and neon blue is no exception! I love the A-line shape of this tutu dress and the wacky colours only add to it – there was no way that Katy was ever going to wear a ‘safe’ pale pink prom dress was she?!

Here’s a Cassiefairy version of the Katy Perry tutu dress, made from violet tulle and neon turquoise with lots of sparkle!

On stage her love of tutus is clearly seen as she uses them add fluff and frills underneath dresses and use mini tutus to show off her fabulous pins! This silver outfit is as crazy as anything Lady Gaga would wear, but on Katy it looks kind of right and noone would question her for this choice in the way that Gaga is so often criticised for her costumes.

With vintage-beauty looks and retro printed fingernails Katy Perry is certainly a style icon who, although she rarely is spotted on the ‘best-dressed’ pages of the glossies, never gets it wrong – its always just so her. We can see why Russell snapped her up anyway!
