Tuesday Shoesday ~ Pretty summer wedges

After such a gloriously sunny weekend, my thoughts have turned to the rest of the summer and what I’ll want to be wearing. I’ve got a lot of pretty dresses that I can wear with bare legs, but not many pairs of shoes to go with them. You may remember that I got a couple of pairs of flip-flops from JamHill that I wrote about a few Tuesday Shoesday’s ago and they are proving to be perfect beach-wear, but when I want to wear something a little more dressy, I don’t really have any shoes to go with my summer skirts. I have plenty of high-heel shoes, but they are all in black, grey, burgundy and brown – great for winter and they go perfectly with tights, but are a bit too dark to wear with bare legs. So I want one (honestly, ONE) new pair of summer shoes with a little heel, and the challenge is that I’d like them to go with everything!

I’ve had a look at the summer footwear choices of my favourite fashionistas and I have decided that a small wedge heel would work best for me – heels the height of those that Kate Middleton or Jennifer Aniston are wearing above would elongate my legs without being painfully high! I also like how tennis star Laura Robson’s choice of nude shoes make her legs look even longer, and I think anything darker than pink, mink or nude would cut off my legs at the ankle and make them look stumpier! I am toying with the idea of getting strappy sandals like Kelly Brooke and Cheryl Cole, but I think that a peep-toe slingback might be summery enough (seeing as I already have strappy flip-flips), and could continue to be worn into autumn too. I don’t want to spend too much on my new shoes, so all of the above wedges are under £15 from New Look, Matalan and ASOS. I think I’m going to go for the second tan-coloured pair from New Look and will be trying them on when I head to the high street later this week. Let me know what you think, and what have you got on your feet his summer? leave me a comment below or tweet me @CassiefairyTutu.

Colour Trend for 2013 – Emerald City

The colour professionals Pantone have announced their colour forecast for 2013 and this year’s colour trend is emerald. The executive director of Pantone Colour Leatrice Eiseman explains that “The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour, this powerful and universally-appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

This photo of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, (below) wearing a Mulberry dress in emerald back in October 2012 probably influenced the decision to name 2013 as the emerald year. And no doubt the colour won’t be limited to fashion – Pantone influences accessories, interior design, cosmetics and even graphics, so you can expect to see a tinge of green everywhere you look throughout the year.

This is one of my favourite colours and I’m delighted that there will be more of the rich green colours in the shops this year, but I’m worried that I’ll get sick of seeing it everywhere – I still can’t look at lilac after the mauve-overload at the turn of the century. Still, I like these emerald pieces that Marks & Spencer, Missguided and La Redoute have added to their spring/summer collections, and I’ll certainly whipping out my old favourite emerald eye shadow and sparkly Pin Up Couture high heels (above) to get into the spirit of 2013!

Princess fashion at the diamond jubilee

Throughout the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend all of the royal ladies certainly made an effort with their choice of celebratory outfits and I was very interested to see which designers they were wearing and the trends they had adopted for this important weekend.

I was impressed to see even the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (who are often criticised for their kooky fashion sense) looking classy, fashionable and summery on the final day of the celebration. Beatrice chose a striped cornflower blue Kinder Aggugini coat-dress while her sister Princess Eugenie wore a shapely purple Susannah dress, and both sensibly chose Stephen Jones hats and subtle Gina shoes (did Beatrice actually coordinate her shoes with her hair?!).

Kate Middleton/Princess Catherine/Duchess of Cambridge (which IS it??) wore Alexander McQueen on no less than 3 occasions during the jubilee weekend and my favourite outfit was this patriotic red dress created by her wedding dress designer Sarah Burton. Tulisa and Kim Kardashian have been spotted in the sleeveless version of this pleated dress in recent weeks but Kate’s custom-made version was much more demure and glamourous, especially combined with her floral Philip Treacy hat. Now where can I get this look on a budget..?

It’s International Tiara Day!

I’ve just heard on Radio 2 that today is International Tiara Day!

After a quick Google I’ve found out that this is the 2nd Annual Tiara Day from ‘The Secret Order of the Tiara’  and it aims to mobilizing women around the world to embrace and celebrate their powers of leadership in their own lives; “International Tiara Day celebrates women everywhere who have struggled to find their own path to success and have made it. It encourages women to listen to their heart and create the life they want. Real or virtual tiara-wearing is optional.”

HM Queen Elizabeth II

International Tiara day also celebrates the launch of the group’s first book, Become Your Own Great & Powerful: A Woman’s Guide to Leading Your Real, Big Life. That sounds like a must-read to me… Amazon here I come!

Check out their homepage http://www.seasonsofsuccess.com/tiaraday.html where you can download printable tiaras and become a member!

I can’t believe that I’ve nearly missed my chance to legitimately wear a tiara all day (and be a princess like Kate Middleton and Diana)! Now where’s my tiny crown..?

Tuesday Shoesday – Posh heels

As Victoria Beckham once again comes under fire for wearing high heels during her pregnancy (pretty much the same story that ran during each of her previous pregnancies…) I’ve turned my attention to her gorgeous designer shoe collection and specifically the shoes that she wore to the Royal Wedding.

Victoria finally lived up to her “Posh” nickname by being offically invited to a Royal Wedding and by wearing an amazing (not to mention expensive) designer outfit consisting of a Philip Treacy hat, her own VB design dress and a pair of customised Christian Louboutin heels.

Although looking slightly more funeral than summer wedding in style, her navy outfit was bang on trend (following in the footsteps of Kate Middletons navy engagement dress). However, I cannot understand how Victoria could walk in those shoes, pregnancy or no pregnancy. Personally, I struggle with 4 inch heels! And those Louboutins look particularly painful on the arches!

Even so, I love the style of the patent leather and the platform soles – the simplicity of these shoes means that they could be worn with any outfit, day or night. As you can see above, Victoria Beckham has worn similar style heels on numerous occasions! So here’s my top picks of the copy-cat shoes on the high street from Dorothy Perkins, Next and New Look :

Now we can all be a little bit more posh!

Tuesday Shoesday – Regal Lace

I know everyone was holding their breath to see THE wedding dress of the year on Friday 29th April  – I was certainly very excited when I caught that first glimpse of Kate Middleton getting into the car to whisk her off to marry her Prince! However, there was something else that I was eager to see – I wanted to know what shoes she was wearing!

Catherine married Prince William in beautiful custom-made Alexander McQueen shoes. Covered in lace exactly matching that on her dress, hand embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.

So now, the fashion world is expected to go crazy over lace-covered heels and here are just a few of my favourites from ASOS, Boohoo, Debenhams and Ravel:

Fairytale Royal Weddings

As the Royal wedding fast approaches, I’ve thought about all the other “normal” girls who have met their price charming and have married into royalty. I wanted to look at all the regal wedding dresses and perhaps get inspiration for a range of wedding tutus for Cassiefairy.co.uk.

The first is the classically beautiful Belle. Like Kate Middleton she is well educated, has perfect dark hair and has a kind, mild manner. Belle’s favourite novel was the story of a girl meeting her prince and falling in love, but she never imagined it would happen to her. She was woo’d  by the beefy Gaston, but shook off his advances to move in with the Beast in order to save her father from a lifetime of imprisonment. Although the two didn’t see eye to eye at the beginning, the household staff encouraged Belle to spend more time with the prince, and she taught the Beast good manners and how to care. Soon the royal Beast realised that he could not live without Belle and set about trying to win her hand in marriage, but it was only when he was mortally wounded that Belle realised her true feelings for him and her love transformed him back into a handsome Prince. The fairytale was complete when this girl-next-door married her prince (in matching white and gold outfits) and was swept around the dancefloor to the classic love song Tale as Old as Time.

The second is a girl who she already had a royal title (her father was King Tritan) but wanted freedom, and to marry the man that she fell in love with at first sight. Once Ariel was outside of her seabed kingdom she became a “normal” human and could barely walk on her new legs. Although she could not speak, she managed to charm the handsome Prince Eric and won the approval of her father to marry her price. The ceremony took place aboard the Prince’s boat and Ariel wore a classic a-line dress with puff sleeves and sweetheart neckline while Eric, like Prince William is expected to, wore his military regalia. The sun shone as the sea priness finally became Part of your World for good.

This final royal romance turns the traditional fairytale story on its head with the Princess Jasmine choosing to marry a ‘street-rat’ Aladdin instead of the many royal suitors that her Sultan father has introduced her to. They first met when Jasmine was pretending to be a ‘normal’ girl and again later when Aladdin was pretending to be royalty. Despite all this confusion the pair fell in love and after Aladdin fought to save his princess and the kingdom, the Sultan declared that the Princess was free to marry whoever she chooses. On their wedding day, Jasmine is reported to have worn two outfits – the first was a long slim dress, with a high neckline and gold collar and cuffs. She wore flowers in her hair and walked down the aisle carrying calla lillies. The second outfit was the Princesses traditional costume of hareem pants and cropped top, but in a soft lilac with sheer veil over the top. Aladdin wore his royal Arabian while suit and wisked Jasmine off to their honeymoon on a magic flying carpet, to start a Whole New World with her.
