Hen party series ~ Dreamboats & Petticoats

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I’ve been running a series of blog posts focussing on hen parties – very useful at this time of year, with the summer wedding season fast approaching! I’ve invited other lovely bloggers to share their ideas for creating the perfect hen do, with writer Ellen Avants previously sharing her article on personalising a hen party  and last week we had a guest blog on hen party activities. Over the coming weeks there’ll be craft tutorials, ideas for games and budget planning from Lacey in Places and costume sewing tips from Kat, but this week I’m discussing themed hen parties – particularly the 50s!

If I were having a hen party today, I’d definitely choose a 50s theme. I have all kinds of ideas about the glitz and glamour of the era and I think it’s a fantastic starting point to plan a girly party. For a start, you can take inspiration from films set in the 50s – and maybe even kick off the hen party celebrations with a screening of classic teen-musical Grease, complete with popcorn and milkshakes!

I love the classic 50s fashion look that is everywhere at the moment – circle skirts, swing dresses and wiggle halternecks are very popular amongst many of my fashionista friends – and these retro shapes can’t fail to flatter any body shape, so you need not be afraid of suggesting a 50s costume theme, because all of the hens will be able to find something to wear that looks great on them. Also, everyone looks a little more glamourous and the photos from your hen party will look amazing – you’ll definitely want to be posting them all over Instagram!

Another idea for the 50s hen party is having a vintage pampering session. All the hens can take time to do each others make-up with eyeliner flicks and bright red lips, and even try out vintage hair-dos, such as the victory roll or finger-wave, using curlers, crimpers and  backcombing. Pop on some rock ‘n’ roll classic CDs and enjoy a good session of grooming and getting to know each other! In the evening, you could eat kitsch burgers and fries in an American-themed diner or go to the theatre to see Dreamboats & Petticoats or Hairspray the musical!

Most importantly (in my opinion) are the pretty petticoats that you’ll need to make your dresses swing about nicely and above are some of the gorgeous pettiskirts that I get to make for myself and others at – some are on the website and some are custom-made with fun combinations of funky colours to match the hen’s dresses perfectly! Self-promotion over! ;)

My new fashion skirts featured on The Wardrobe Challenge blog!

I am so pleased to say that one of my new range of fashion tulle skirts has been included on The Wardrobe Challenge blog

I love fashion writer Hanna’s blog because I enjoy seeing how she styles her outfits and it’s great to see someone doing it for all the curvy girls! She got in touch with me last month to discuss what kind of skirt she wanted and sent me lots of photos of other similar skirts so that I could get an idea of the kind of outfit she was after. This was a new experience for me because, although I’ve made 100s of tutus, skirts and fancy dress costumes, this is the first time I’ve made a ‘fashion’ skirt and I didn’t know how it would turn out.

After a lot of discussions about the type of fabric, colours and style, between us we came up with a sheer grey layered design with contrasting black underskirt and waistband. Hanna  is new to über-girliness and didn’t want anything too OTT straight away; “I was always a tomboy as a kid, and a teen, and a young adult, and a not so young adult.. haha. Basically I’ve only started to embrace all things girly during the past few years, and lately I have been dying to get my hands on a tulle skirt – which is the last thing that the young me would have worn”. Thankfully, she emailed me straight away to tell me that she loved the skirt and would be blogging about it, fantastic news! I’ve since made a few more of these skirts and will be adding the new range to my website soon at in a whole range of sizes, lengths and colours.

If I were a fairy, I’d live here…

How cute is this lovely little shed from This is possibly the most fairy-like house I’ve seen all year! and I want one! Unfortunately for me this company is based in the US and I’m pretty sure that shipping one over to the UK would be a little more spendy than I could afford! So in the meantime I’ll just admire this building and tell you that the eco-friendly company uses reclaimed wood to make their higgledy-piggledy playhouses, sheds and even saunas! It’s certainly put a big smile on my face today anyway!

V-Festival is tuning up as we speak! Festival fashion for fairies

The famous V-Festival is starting today and thousands of festival-goers have packed their best festival fashion looks for the weekend – which is forecast to be hot and sunny – great news for the audience, who can finally leave their wellies at home! But of course, fashionistas still need to be prepared with a few fancy dress items to jazz up their festival wardrobe – when else can you run around a field wearing fairy wings?? Check out for festival fashion inspiration!

Tuesday Shoesday – Marilyn Monroe

“Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.” Marilyn Monroe

And Marilyn was right. The right pair of shoes can make you walk taller, feel more confident and, if necessary, cause significant pain when deployed in the ‘special’ area of menfolk.

The new film My Week With Marilyn pays such amazing attention to detail that all of the costumes are spot-on, depicting precisely what Monroe wore on those exact days in history. And most fun for me was looking at her shoes (of course).

The Only Way is… Halloween

I was delighted to see a large quantity of tutus at the TOWIE Halloween party when the episode aired last weekend. I wanted to share the girls’ outrageously sexy costumes with you so here’s some photos of Lauren Pope (above), Maria Fowler, Chloe Simms and Peri Sinclair:

Plus here’s a photo of the little bridesmaid at Chloe’s wedding themed 30th birthday party wearing a cute ballerina tutu dress and being escorted by Joey Essex!
