Tuesday Shoesday ~ Dancing shoes

In one of my previous Tuesday Shoesday posts, I talked about shoes that are ideal to wear for dancing. The first pair I mentioned was the Bloch Adora 2.5” which are perfect for experienced dancers and the soft ballet shoes, which are ideal for beginners and amateur dancers. I had a great response to this article from my dance enthusiat readers, so I’ve decided to write another Tuesday Shoesday on the ultimate dancing shoe that every girl has wanted to wear at one time in their life: of course, I’m talking about classic ballet pointe shoe!

Pointe ballet shoes are the most iconic shoes worn by dancers, because they never fail to give the audience the ‘wow’ factor. The unique shape and structure allows ballerinas to lift off the floor effortlessly, leaping around the stage gracefully and elegantly.

These type of shoes are worn by the most experienced ballet dancers, who have gone through training to be able to stand on their toes for support without hurting themselves. If you’re a dancer and you’re looking for a new pair of pointe ballet shoes, check out Dancemania. Dancemania is an online dance store that sells pointe ballet shoes from leading industry brands such as; Bloch, Gaynor, Minden and Capezio.

If you’re goal is to one day wear these classic pointes, then start with a pair of soft ballet shoes, available in either split sole or full sole. Choose which one is best for you and start practicing your plies. When achieving any goal inspiration is key; so if you need images to help push you through exams check out these beautiful tutus and stunning dance costumes on Rossetti.

PS I recently decided that ballet pink is my new favourite colour and have just been given some gorgeous patinated antique glass baubles in this blush pink shade for my birthday. They are so pretty and girly, and I love my new baubles – thanks hubby! :)

Tuesday Shoesday ~ These shoes were made for dancing

From tap dance to Zumba and Salsa, more and more people are taking up dancing as a hobby. The reasons are simple and straightforward: not only is dancing an effective form of exercise, but it’s also fun. The only part of taking up dancing as a hobby that’s not so fun, is finding the right wear. Shoes in particular, can prove to be elusive, as some forms will require particular styles, that aren’t always easy to find. Here are a few shoes that were made for dancing however.

The first pair we’ll mention in this piece aren’t quite the type you’ll want to practice dancing in. With slightly higher heels, the Bloch Adora 2.5”s below are more for those who already know a thing or two about dancing and are looking to express what they know at a dinner party. Do not think however that due to the slightly higher heel, these shoes would be uncomfortable or hard to wear however. Maintaining stability and comfort, these Bloch Adoras boast suede leather soles, allowing dancers enough friction to turn and spin with ease. Designed to fit securely, the shoes also have a great amount of flexibility at the ball of the foot, making them perfect for salsa, latin and ballroom types of dancing. They’re available for around 70GBP in stores.

Ballet shoes are designed to be soft, usually coming in canvas, leather or satin. The particular style and type of shoes you’ll need will depend on the level of ballet dancer you are. Amateurs and children would be wise to opt for shoes with soft leather upper and a full suede sole, such as Freed of London’s full sole leather ballet shoes shown above. They’re available for around 12GBP in stores.

If you’re just looking for something comfortable, the Bloch Zenith shoes shown below will be a great choice. With elasticated binding, the shoes are quite literally tailor made for flexibility and a snug fit. They could probably be snapped up for around the same amount as the Freed of London pair mentioned above.

Some people who spend hours upon hours ballet dancing aren’t merely practicing or learning, but teaching. These are the experts who require a different type of ballet shoe, which accommodates the amount of pressure constantly, put on their heels while teaching class after class. The Bloch Paris Teaching shoes above are the perfect fit for ballet dancing experts and teachers. These suede leather shoes have small heels that release heel pressure, allowing lengthy use. They’re available for 27.95GBP at Move Dancewear.

Fashion is everything these days, and sometimes the dancing shoes you buy will have little to do with comfort or suitability. These ballet shoes below are a great example of this, with pink sequin detailing, they are absolutely gorgeous. From Bloch’s seasonal collection, they are worth around 10GBP in stores.

Another fabulous example is the Werner Kern Eva 6.5cm heel shoe pair shown above worth around 80GBP. Designed for Latin and ballroom dancing, their 6.5cm heel will ensure that there’s a good chance you won’t be able to move around properly in them without falling over. However, they’re so gorgeous it’s worth the risk!

Tutus Spotted – Even car companies are featuring fairies!

I spotted a very cute fairy bouncing around in her tutu in a car advert recently and have added it to my growing collection of tutus spotted in advertising.

Although VW are now only showing the shorter edited version of this advert on the telly, I did a quick YouTube search for the full advert and found it straight away. I really like this advert (as far a car advertising goes, it’s quite nice!) and I find myself getting a little emotional at the end, especially as my brother and his wife are expecting their first child this summer. As a family of VW enthusiasts who already own a few Dubs including a campervan, I wonder if they’ll buy their child a Polo for their first car after seeing this advert?! Anyway, here it is:

Ballet inspired photography by Peter Coulson

I have recently discovered this collection of images by famous fashion and art photographer Peter Coulson and simply adore the craziness of these photos featuring model Tara Hurster.

Over the past year we’ve seen many more photo shoots featuring a ballet theme and tutus, thanks to the success of critically acclaimed film Black Swan. This set of images features Tara Hurster wearing a head-to-toe explosion of tutus and the result is one of the more eccentric interpretations of ballerina style that I’ve come across in recent months!

New York ballet style from Natalie Portman & Drew Barrymore

New mum Black Swan star Natalie Portman and mum-to-be Drew Barrymore both rocked up at the New York City Ballet Spring Gala at The Lincoln Centre this weekend. And both stars looked über-elegant in top-to-toe tulle!

As the face of Miss Dior Cherie Portman unsurprisingly wore a tiered Christian Dior gown and wore the ultimate ballet accessory on her arm – her dancer and Black Swan choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied. And my favourite actress Drew Barrymore chose ballet-pink accessories & makeup to complement her angelic flowing white Chanel frock (which emphasised her blossoming baby bump!).

Lovely ballet-style fashion without looking like they’ve fallen into the dressing-up box – Well done ladies!

Tutus Spotted – Advert for McDonalds

My mum texted me to tell me about this McDonalds ‘Mascotathon’ advert – Shoes & tutus in one advert = my heaven! Here’s some frames from the advert:

I’m also impressed that McDonalds are giving away pedometers with their Happy Meals to get kids moving – I want one for myself! Here’s the full advert if you want to take a look for yourself:

Little Children LOVE Fancy Dress!

I love seeing little kids in fancy dress and I love how these outfits have incorporated tutus – my favourite thing! There’s some great fancy dress ideas here: the easter bunny, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (how cute!) and a rock n roll 50s chick! I especially love how mini Audrey Hepburn is rocking her look – you go little girl!
